Who married William Ballantine?
In 1849 William Ballantine (b.ca.1785) and his wife Mary (b.ca.1785), left
their home in Gortavilly, Parish Desertcreat, Tyrone, located three miles from
Cookstown, one mile from Sandholes and one mile from the town of Rock near the
road leading from Cookstown to Rock.

In May 1849 they settled in Muhlenburg County, Kentucky (in 1854 the area
became McLean County KY). The 1850 US census listed William Ballantine,
Farmer, and wife Mary with children: John 35 Stone Cutter; Moses 25 Farmer;
Isabella 22; Margaret 19; WIlliam 18 Saddler; Joseph 17 Farmer; Henry 14.

Through the very fine work of County Tyrone researchers at this website I have
learned much about the area and other Ballantine relatives (e.g.,in
Derryloran), BUT I cannot find a marriage for William and Mary, thus her maiden
name is unknown. Some in the family have heard Pinkston or Pinkerton. I did
find a Pinkerton surname In Tithe Applotment Book listed in "County
Tyrone-Donegal." Another mystery. What is this double county?

I have been to PRONI and found a couple baptisms, but no maiden name for Mary.
Any advice or assistance will be appreciated. Beverley in Kentucky
