Hello Dave and everyone.
Dave, I am absolutely delighted that you have located a great find on my Urney
Parish Church file of marriages, doubly so as I receive so few responses to any
of my work. Witnesses are included in my marriage transcriptions as they may
indicate family connections or close friendships. In the case of the 1849
marriage of David Miller and Margaret Lepper there is the added touching
element of the family’s loved and much-respected Presbyterian church elder Hugh
Knox invited to witness the marriage in a Church of Ireland ceremony.
Great to have a signature of a forebear!

Subject: Serendipity sounds ... all thanks to Len Swindley !!

Hello everyone.

Just have to share was Len has facilitated …..

Recently Len kindly posted transcriptions of marriages in the Parish of Urney
onto our Co.Tyrone website. And Len had the savvy (and the kindness) to
include the names of the witnesses to these marriages.

So now I have from GRONI a certificate to the marriage of David Miller and
Margaret Lepper in 1849 – which shows the original signature of church elder
Hugh Knox who would then have been about 82 years old.

An original signature of my very own 3-greats-grandfather! How so very
special!

Thanks, Len, you’re a star.

Have a great weekend, folks.
