The mention of a database on mills caught my eye. I think the one you meant,
Evelyn, is http://www.millsofnorthernireland.com/. There's also
http://www.millsofireland.org/ which I'm about to have a look at.

I notice that Andrew's father Joseph was a miller. I suggest you check
Sebastian Graham's database on the website millsofireland.com to see if he
appears there, though the database may not go back far enough to pick him up.
I take it you have checked the Griffith valuation on the askaboutireland.com
website for references to Joseph, or check if there was a mill in Drumlegagh.

Hello fellow researchers,
I'm from New
Zealand and have been researching my Maxwell line for years,
and until now have found no record of my family line in
Ireland. I believe however
my gg grandfather, Andrew Maxwell, may be related to the
Maxwells of Drumlegagh, and could be the son of Joseph
Maxwell and Margaret McCay (married April 1824) as shown on
the Cotyroneireland website. I have attached
Andrew's death certificate (he died in 1918 in NZ) which
shows his parents were Joseph Maxwell and Margaret McKee
(which I believe may be a mis-spelling of McCay). The only
other information (passed down through the family) is the
Maxwell family was Presbyterian, and that they lived in
Northern Ireland. And that Andrew left the family and
Ireland because he wanted to marry Margaret Walsh (from
Tuam), who was Catholic. They emigrated separately to NZ,
married in 1869, and had eight children. I have also
attached their marriage certificate as well. They had no
further contact with the family in Ireland, as far as I
know. The other
interesting thing is that several of Andrew and
Margaret's children shared names with the original
family (Andrew's siblings): and were called Joseph,
Mary, James, Margaret, Elizabeth, Matilda (x2 one died young
and they reused the name), and Andrew - all born in
NZ.My
father has also done a Y-chromosome DNA test which shows
lots of American Maxwell relatives but none from Ireland (so
far). So - very
interested in any additional thoughts or suggestions on how
to pursue this line of research. Obviously making contact
with any descendants of the original Joseph and Margaret
Maxwell would be very useful.
with
thanksGerald Maxwell
