My wife may be descended from an Arthur Quinn of Desertcreat. He was a soldier
who enlisted in the 1/44th Foot in 1799 and was discharged from that regiment
in 1815. He joined the Royal Reserves Battalion on discharge and served in
there until 1816. It is possible he came to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in
1832 via Liverpool with his wife and son James, possibly as a pensioner from
Kilmainham Hospital (he was wounded during service in the 44th Foot). He most
probably died in Hobart in 1842 aged 63. His birth year is between 1777-79. I
know nothing more about him, or even if the soldier was the same person as the
emigrant in 1832. Any help would be appreciated. I know there were two Arthur
Quinns in Desertcreat in an 1825 census (info obtained online from the
Desertcreat Parish Tithe Applotment Book). Neil Thomas Belair, South
Australia
