Thank you very much Len for the lookups. Hard bunch to crack. One
actually went to Australia and great grandsons were living in Melbourne in the
1950s.
William Kincaid Sr. died in Silverhill in 1864. Who knows where he is
buried then. I have not yet located his son William, but he probably went to
Manitoba, Canada where his wife, Nancy McFarlane, had family.
I have no idea what became of John Kincaid and Sarah Kincaid who were in
Ballee in the Griffiths Valuation.
There seems to have been two James Kincaids. The first James was the father
of David Kincaid (born c1829 Dec 1904) of Holyhill who married Ann Jane Sharkey
(1834-Oct 1996) and went to Geelong, Victoria, Australia. They are buried in
Geelong Western Public cemetery. They had Ann Jane (m. Frank Richard Smith),
Mary Rebecca (m. Richard Walter Smith), John James Kincaid (1862 - 22 Mar
1889), and David Kincaid. The latter married Frances Caroline Logan and later
Annie Elisa Batson. By his first wife he had Frances Adeline Kincaid who died
an infant. By his second wife he had William Lambert Kincaid, Annie Louise
Kincaid (m. Albert Stanley Northfield), and Ethelwyn Frances Kincaid (m. Edward
Martin Walsh). William Lambert Kincaid married Constance Marjory Glenister and
moved to Melboune, Australia. He died in 1951 leaving sons John Holman Kincaid
and William Kincaid. I lose track of the sons. Len, since you are also in
Melbourne, if you know anything of the sons John
Holman Kinca
id and William Kincaid, please let me know.
The other James Kincaid (c1817-1880) was in Ballee when he married Margaret
Caton on 1857. She died in 1874 and he was in Keenaghan when he remarried to
Susan (Black) Nixon later that year. They had Margaret (died young) and James
(born in 1878). James the father died in 1880 and his widow and son lived in
Holyhill where they are recorded in the 1901 census. However, James had
married Mary Kee in 1899 and they had Mary Jane, James Alexander (died an
infant), Maggie, and John Augustine/Gustavus, James Thomas, Sarah Kathleen,
Annie Evisena, Fanny Edith, and Anne Martha Elizabeth Kinkaid. The wife and
children appear in Holyhill in the household of Alexander Kee in the 1911
census while James is recorded with his mother Susan in Dergalt, Camus Parish
in the same census. While it appears James Jr. and Mary Jane Kee separated,
they did not as the last 4 are born in Holyhill after 1911.
Thomas Kincaid of Holyhill (in Griffiths) was married to a Mary Ann who
died at Holyhill on 7 May 1866. It looks like they had a daughter Lucinda who
married John Stevenson on 18 October 1866.
Thanks again Len for your help!

Hello Peter,
Graveyards checked are Leckpatrick Old Burial Ground (map and
inscriptions), Patrick Street (Old Camus parish) Graveyard, Strabane
(inscriptions and burial register), Grange Old Burial Ground, Donagheady Parish
(inscriptions and map), Old Donagheady Graveyard, Benowen, Donemana
(inscriptions) and Old Glendermot Graveyard, Glendermot, Co. Londonderry
(inscriptions) and there is not a single reference to any Kinkaids (or
variants).
Referring to the 1863 list of stipend payers for Leckpatrick Presbyterian
congregation you mention; I looked up my copy (from the Presbyterian Historical
Society, Belfast) and note that neither William nor James Kincaid actually
contributed towards the stipend of the minister, Rev. Moses Chambers (their
names appear only, as opposed to others and their contribution) Perhaps they
had left the parish? Neither name is recorded in the list of stipend payers for
1866.
My apologies for the delay in responding, but work commitments must take
priority and transcribing records for CTI is ongoing.

Forgive me, but I had asked Len twice if he could check the same sources
(which I do not have access to) for the Kincaids of Leckpatrick and I am not
sure if a problem occurred with a reply. On Feb 27 he asked what period these
Kincaids lived and I responded with details of them living in the mid to latter
1800s. I then received a message which was simply a forwarding of his 1st
question. Did part of a message/response get lost?
Best wishes!

Hello Julie,
There are four graveyards within Leckpatrick parish, Strabane, Co. Tyrone;
the graveyard attached to St. Patrick?s Parish Church (Church of Ireland) which
is relatively modern, the graveyard attached to Leckpatrick Presbyterian
Church, Artigarvan, also relatively modern, the RC graveyard belonging to St.
Mary?s Chapel at Cloghcor and the ancient parish graveyard (Leckpatrick Old
Burial Ground ? now closed) on Victoria Road (corner Leckpatrick and
Ballyheather Roads). This old place of rest contains many graves, but fewer
headstones: the earliest recorded is dated 1617.
Referring to the Register of Gravestone Inscriptions in Leckpatrick Old Burial
Ground, Artigarvan, Strabane ? David & Sheelagh Todd (1991) there are no
Nickle/ Nicholl headstones. So then went to a register compiled from a
disintegrating map of the graveyard (1877) and again was unable to locate a burial
place of the Nickles. There is a Henry Nichol recorded on the headstone of the
Gordon family of Strabane referring to him as ?a faithful friend?. In 1989 the
Strabane District Council erected a plaque in memory of the famed ?Memory Man?
Bobby Nicholl (1907-1985). Have also referred to a file of the 451 legible
headstone contained within the old Camus parish Graveyard in Patrick Street,
Strabane, but again, there is nothing relevant to your forebears.
In the old days, folk had little money to spare for a headstone; however,
all knew the location of the family burial place! My forebear, Joseph Arbuckle
of Woodend died 1781 and is buried in Leckpatrick Old Burial Ground (with
headstone). A relation accompanied me to the grave and mentioned that the two
unmarked spaces on either side belonged to the (related) Houston family of
Woodend although this is not recorded on the old map.
It is most likely that the Nickles of Woodend and elsewhere in the parish
had a burial place in Old Leckpatrick, but it seems almost impossible to locate
it. I guess you have found my file of Woodend rentals, tithe applotment book
and Griffith Valuation (1858) on CTI?
http://www.cotyroneireland.com/rental/woodend.html
Hope this all helps?

Hello
I found your web pages whilst looking into my family history in the area.
My gg grandfather was Joseph Nickle from Woodend. I'm trying to locate his
grave and have already been to the area and found COI and Pres graveyards with
no success. However I'm led to believe there's an old graveyard in the area. I
was wondering if you could give me directions to this if you know where it is.
My sat nav led me a merry dance last time trying to find the other two!
Many thanks
Julie
