Hi Elwyn Thank You so much for all your wonderful help. I will go thru each link and check them all out.
You have gone above and beyond any help I was hoping for and I am so very grateful for your help. Firstly, you need to know there are 3 townlands named Tirnaskea in Tyrone. The one you want (in the RC parish of Errigal Kieran) is in the civil parish of Errigal Keerogue. In Griffiths Valuation of 1860 there were 4 McBride farms there, all close together and so probably related. Arthur & Mary (unlikely to be man and wife) jointly shared plot 3 a 28 acre farm, Owen had plot 7, 1 acre. James had plot 8, 10 acres and Peter had plot 10, 10 acres. The Griffiths site has maps and you can use the slider bar in the top right hand corner of the maps screen to switch between a contemporaneous map and a modern one. The contemporaneous map shows you where the various plots were/are. Plot 3, for example, was on the modern Whitebridge Rd, near Tirnaskea National School, about 3 miles north of Ballygawley. http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch The reason you haven’t found Patrick McBride’s baptism is probably that the records don't go back that far. Errigal Kieran has at least 2 churches. The one for the Ballygawley area only has records from 1847. By 1901 there were 2 McBride farms in Tirnaskea: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Ballygawley/Tirnaskea/1724748/ http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Ballygawley/Tirnaskea/1724746/ Total population of the townland in 1901 was 76 people in 20 households. I don't know enough about the parish to say which of the chapels is the one the McBrides would have used (or whether the 1840s building is still standing). Here’s a link to the parish website. There are photos of several different churches there. Possibly one is the one you are looking for. However the parish office should be able to tell you which one your family would have used and when it was built etc. https://www.parishoferrigalciaran.com Note that Ciaran is another way of spelling Kieran. Carrickmore is in the parish of Termonmacguirk (immediately to the north of Errigal Kieran). Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church after which she’d attend her husband’s. Termonmacguirk’s records start in 1834. The chapel in Carrickmore today is St Columcille’s. Again I do not know whether the current building is the same one as existed in 1846 but the parish office should be able to help. https://www.catholicclocks.com/mass-times/northern-ireland/tyrone/carrickmore/st-columcilles-church Elwyn On 21/07/2019, Kim Pasquill via CoTyroneList <[email protected]> wrote: > > Hi Everyone, > > I am new to the list and hope that I might be able to get a little > help with my ancestors. > > Patrick McBride was born about 1816 but we have not been able to find > his baptism as yet.
