Hello.

As I mentioned in the first post, I’m looking for information about my ancestor
who came to Canada from Tyrone (as indicated in his obituary). I’m unsure
where I can find more information so am hoping someone here can point me
towards some resources.

William McFadden was born Sept 2, 1785 in Tyrone. He died Sept 22, 1881 near
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He came to Canada as part of the British 99th foot
regiment to fight in the War of 1812. At the end of the war he chose to remain
in Canada. We believe he was a weaver before leaving Ireland.

We think he had 2 brothers who also served in the military - a brother John
born 1795 approx in Donegal who joined the military 5 May 1812 in 3rd soldiers
depot and a brother Edward born 1797 approx. in Fermanagh. Military date 17
Oct 1814. Unit 35thfoot soldier.

Thank you
Josie.

Hello,

I am new to this list and to the whole site. I know that I am looking for a
needle in a haystack but I am hoping that someone can help direct me where else
to look.

I am from Canada and I am looking for my ancestor - William McFadden - who was
born in Tyrone, went to Canada with the British army to fight in the War of
1812 and then he settled here (near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). The website has
his obituary on the page "born in Tyrone, buried elsewhere" which I pasted
below.

My mom has been working on ancestry.com<http://ancestry.com> for several years
and we have been unable to find anyone prior to this ancestor. We know that he
also had a brother who came to Canada after the war (and he remained here as
well, we have found some of his descendants).

So, I am relatively new to researching genealogy, and I'm wondering if anyone
on here can provide advice on how to find information on William, and hopefully
his parents, in Tyrone. Thanks so much.

Josie.
