Dear Listers - and especially Len and Jim
Thank you so much for posting these family notes. What Len does too, is not just to transcribe the marriage entry - he also does this in a way that records also the officiating clergyman. In 1848, Thomas Black and Hanna Gilmore were married in Belfast, in the Linenhall Street Church (Reformed Presbyterian), by the Rev. Robert Knox .. * I could find, from www.irishgenealogy.ie <http://www.irishgenealogy.ie> the actual marriage register entry - in Rev. Robert Knox's own handwriting * This on a page of several marriages, all by him, and where he certified the whole page too - so lots of examples of his signature * By looking at the .pdf pages before and after (just change the last digit in the page number), I could get examples from several pages Rev. Robert Knox was a County Tyrone man, the 3rd son of Hugh Knox at Urney and grandson of Gustavus Knox of Little Drumenny, both in co. Tyrone. He was also a great-uncle to my own grandfather. So, thanks, Len - you've done it again! You've given me a bookful of his own original handwriting, from over 170 years ago .. Your kindness and thoroughness makes for marvellous help and exciting discoveries for others. Thank you, thank you and thank you again! All 100 000 of them thank you's ..
