Interesting -- I have family names Cathcart and Steele in my tree also (I am a Steele descendant)
But my Cathcarts came from County Fermanagh 1842 >> I don’t know of any US connection and my Steeles came from Tyrone 1773 >> yes, some offspring went to the US. Surnames are Cathcart, Marshall, Alexander, Cousley, Steele My Great, great grandfather John Marshall Cathcart was born in either Cookstown or Pomeroy March 11, 1842. He came to United States about 1860. His parents are Gabriel Cathcart (born 1817) and Hester Marshall Cathcart (born 1818). Hester’s widowed mother, Letitia Marshall, was an innkeeper in Pomeroy in 1839. Gabriel Cathcart was living near Magherafelt in 1839 when he and Hester Marshall married. The Cathcart, Cousley, and Steele families are also associated with Springlane Farm, Ballymuckleheany, County Derry. Sarah Alexander, my great great grandmother, born in either Pomeroy or Belfast, joined a brother or uncle in the United States. There she married John Marshall Cathcart. Is there a local person who can help me with local sites? Connections with cousins would be a bonus. Thank you Julia Holton Todd, Kirkland, Washington, USA
