Darlene, yes, I'm very confused. Family legend has it that our gg-grandfather,
David Lindsay, was born in Armagh approx. . 1780, but his death record shows
Tyrone. Perhaps his Irish accent wasn't easily understood by his North American
descendants.
As you suggested, Omagh could be correct location. His wife was born in
Fintona, so it seems very possible. I've been searching for his records in the
area of Omagh for a year, but with no real leads.
My ancestors don't seem to have been involved with workhouses but they're a
fascinating bit of history which is why I read Elwyn's input with much
interest.

Each workhouse (Poor Law Union) had a catchment area which, in general, was the
same as the later civil registration districts. The Poor Law catchment areas
often crossed county boundaries. In the case of the Armagh (city) most of the
townlands in that Poor Law Union were in Co Armagh, but there look to be about
30 in Co Tyrone. When they were sorting the boundaries out, I assume there was
some system, and in this case it was decided to lump them in with Armagh City.
So persons in those 30 Tyrone townlands who needed indoor relief from the
workhouse went to Armagh City (and would therefore appear in their records).
Strabane has part of Co Donegal in its area, Irvinestown, Fermanagh, includes a
chunk of Tyrone too. And so on.
Use this site if you want to establish which county, parish or Poor Law Union a
townland fell in.

Inthe meantime, I can tell you that there were workhouses in Fermanaghin :
Ballyshannon, Clones, Enniskillen & Lisnaskea.

Fermanagh" reference. If you haveno other clues they may be the 2 to start with.
Butif Ellen died in 1864, there should be a statutory death certificatefor her.
There was only 1 Ellen Quigley death in what is now NorthernIreland in 1864,
and that was a child aged 0 who died in Londonderryon 9.1.1864. So I'd be keen
to know the source of the informationthat says your Ellen died in 1864 in
Tyrone/Fermanagh.
