There were Birneys at Baronscourt - one was apparently quite the dissolute rogue according to Abercorn accounts in PRONI. If you come across any in your readings, I'd be very appreciative of knowing which Birneys may have been on an Abercorn/Hamilton plantation estates.

Is the book available online? Is it accessible in Australia somewhere? I'm in Albury NSW. Baronscourt is certainly a grand residence I was unaware that the Abercorns had an estate near Dungannon. There is no reference to any East Tyrone holdings in William Roulston's superb Abercorn: The Hamiltons of Baronscourt (Ulster Historical Foundation, 2014). Interesting. All the best, Len ________________________________ From: Gordon Wilkinson via CoTyroneList <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, 12 November 2022 9:55 AM To: James McKane via CoTyroneList <[email protected]> Cc: Gordon Wilkinson <[email protected]> Subject: [CoTyroneMailingList] Re: New Content - Abercorn Estate Salaries Paid 1859 & Townlands of the Manors of Cloghogle & Donelong My forebears rented farm land near Dungannon from Abercorn in the 19C. Not an easy life. However, Baronscourt is another matter, I think I could comfortably enjoy living there in 1840. Yet so isolated - no internet 😁.
