weather and lichen have wrecked their all on them. The older sandstone
headstones seem unable to last longer than mid 19thC.But all is not lost.
Oblique lighting can enhance the engravings. Either get the sun to do that for
you (if you arrive at the right time of day, or are super patient) or bring
your own floodlight. My son uses that technique to photo-record Australian
aboriginal rock art with some stunning successes. It's surprising just how
legible some inscriptions can become under the right light direction. A
powerful flash-light works, but only over a small area, so multiple photos are
