In our Family Bible, my great grandmother is recorded as both Margaret
and Margret on the same page but in different places. Margt being an
abbreviation of Margaret/Margret. Literacy was not a strong point in the
19thC. ☹️

If the name was on the passenger list, presumably, it was provided by
Conway and he would have known his mother's name. The name on the
Death cert was provided by someone other than Conway who might have
gotten it wrong.
In either case, there is always the possibility that the shipping
clerk or the doctor got it wrong.
As the clerk and the doctor were paid to record info correctly, I'd
go with the name on the passenger list until I got the name from
other records.

for Philadelphia, PA, USA.
Other records: 1860- 1900 US census,
Death certificate list her as "Mary" McGarvey.
Would it be possible that Margt and Mary are the same person?
