>I hope these questions aren't too basic
No such thing.

>1. How often does water get into (your) gas tanks by condensation or
other wise?
Practically never, if you keep it hangared. 'Coupes and lots of other
older
planes with the bent wire fuel guage (the one on the header tank) will
have
condensation run down the wire into the tank if left outside. It's not a
big deal; you can get covers to prevent it, or the glass tube guage, or
I've
heard of folks enlarging the hold on a baby bottle nipple and pulling it
down over the wire to prevent this.

>2. If water does get into the tanks, is it necessary to dump all of the
>gas?
Depends on how much water. Generally, no. When you check the drains on
preflight, you might see a little bead of water at the bottom of you drain
cup. That's usually all there is in the tank. Now if someone had dumped
LOTS of water directly into the tank...well, that's a different story.
Hard
to see how that would happen except on purpose of if you ditched.

>3. Do you folks ever have a problem with contaminents in the fuel you
buy?
I haven't, but there's a lawsuit going on in Australia about this right
now
-- a whole bunch of GA planes got grounded. I use a specific gravity fuel
tester (Sporty's, about $11) that has a little bead in the bottom that
will
float if there's Jet A or something else unseen of different density in
there.

>I apologize for being such a novice
No need! Asking is the only way to learn.

Good luck!
