That is pretty easy if you think about it for a few minutes. One of the
common oil leak comes from the pin that the pump arm pivots on. Oil
splashed
from the engine lubricates the arm pivot and linkage. Dry pump makes no
difference there. The diaphragm is a flexible rubber with an inlayed
reinforcement. When the rubber becomes brittle and cracks pump fails. But
that comes usually with age not running dry. Warren
