Cecil, Originally the coupe came with balance weights on the aelirons...A niice technical point..However, vibration continued to crack the mpounting points. Service buletins told how to re-inforce the aelirons mounts, but still they cracked. Then ERCO found if there was no more than 5/16 inch play in the aeliron control system, the weights could safely be removed with out danger of flutter. Excess play must be corrected to prevent flutter and possible aeliron destruction in flight.
See Erco Service Memo #57, Oct 11, 1949 Removal was not mandantory, but recommended. You can see the mounting pads on the underside of your wings. weight of parts:3.5 lbs at 55.5 inches behind datum line. If weights are installed, the allowable play between aelirons at the trailing edge is 7/16".
