Hi Maynard, Sorry to hear about the problem with the 'Coupe. These problems can be very difficult to find. All the suggestions you listed can be the problem and they all have to be examined. Once when I was flying I had the ammeter go to max. I pulled the circuit breaker and landed. I found that the carbheat cable had shorted the field causing the generator to go to the max. If the points get stuck in the regulator it will do the same thing. You should look at this. Also check the wire going to the field winding for shorts. Hopefully this will help you. Good luck.
