Actually you should put a small amount of soap in the water to break the
surface tension so the field wets evenly.  So far as I know this trick
will
work on nearly any adhesive that isn't water soluble.  You know that clear
rubber RTV compound?  The stuff can be formed and smoothed after
application
just by wetting your fingers (with saliva for example) and smoothing it
with
them.  Doesn't seem to affect it's drying.
