SB-30 relates to the removal, inspection, and pressure testing of muffler part # 40511. If you are buying a new one, make certain it is part # 40511-1. This eliminates the need to pressure test the muffler and inspect it each 50 hours of service. You will still have to remove it and inspect it on each annual or 100 hr. inspection. It sounds as though removal and inspection alone is a big job. I don't know if the FAA ever issued an AD on this item, but I don't remember seeing one. Brings up a good question. I know that for an annual inspection, they check for compliance with all AD notes. But, are they required to check the Service Bulletins? And, can they fail your annual because of non-compliance with the Service Bulletins?
