I only know what the spec. sheet indicated. And, no it was not a Coupe
that was
tested. But, while increasing virtually every performance figure, it also
increased the top speed of the test bird. I've thought about this, and
the only
conclusion that I can come up with is that by improving lift, it allows
more of
the power to be devoted to forward motion, rather than upward lift. Kind
of
reminds me of the performance figures of Big Trucks. 80% of power is
devoted to
bucking the wind, and 20% to moving the rig forward. If we can reduce the
amount
of power required to keep the Coupe in the air, it could indeed move
forward
faster. At least this sounds reasonable to me.
By the way, I seem to be offending the purists out there with talk
about
improving a Coupe. I agree the Coupe is a sweet little plane. The
problem is, I
want to fly it to Lake Powell this summer. The airstrip at Bullfrog is
3,000 ft,
with altitude of 4,000 asl. Afternoon temperature of 100 degrees. I'd
like to
have a reasonable expectation of actually getting off the ground. The
droopy
tips could give me that. I've also had lots of positive response from the
rebels
out there that think this could be a great idea. I'll keep posting to this
list,
