Ed, I believe that a properly loaded and rigged coupe cannot enter into a
spin.

The reason for this is that the coupe cannot be cross controlled, or held
in
a full stall.

However, most all these coupes are 50 years old, and have often been
flown
"out of rig"....Now, if out of rig, frozen rudder belcrank, excessive
elevator travel, misshaped fairing (wing to fuselage, etc); then a coupe
exhibiting these charracteristics may very likely enter into a full stall;
and with frozen rudder belcrank --allowing crossed controls, then a spin
could be developed.

When I got my coupe, the rudder belcrank was frozen; the nose gear was
rigged
about 20 degrees to the left ( with neutral controls), etc., and the plane
flew sideways.

After correcting these items and replacing the rudder control ribs, the
airplane flew straight, and about 10 MPH faster.

Now I can enter a steep bank, and slowly attain full elevator "Up"
control,
with full throttle...and NO Stall.

In a full power , straight ahead attempt to stall, the airplane attains a
very steep climb, then the nose slowly drops , till it is flyin in a slow
mush......At full throttle, I can maintain altitude....

If one attemptsd to do a whip stall, the coupe willget very nose high,
then
breaks fairly quickly, but after a couple of oscellations atttains the
mush
flying attitude.

With power off, and full up control, the coupe remains under full control,
with steep turns under full control, BUT descending at about 1500 ft/min
+...

I am constantly amazed just how great the 1930's designed coupe
performs...

I truely believe a properly rigged coupe operated at or below max gross
weight  will perform this way....but many coupes are not rigged properly;
rudder belcranks are tight or frozen, and many fairings are dented....

This, of course, effects the performance......

I think if the coupe stalls, then recovery is straight forward: Open the
throttle; lower the nose to regain flying speed, and then level
out.....just
like any other airplane....

Fly Safe - Have Fun

Take Care.
