I do not know about the C90 but I installed the El Reno spin on adapter on
my C85 just after I bought my Coupe in 1990.  It fits on the engine where
the oil cooler goes so you can only have one or the other.  Withe the C85
baffles and the oil filter I never get excess oil temperature although it
is
hard to get the oil above 150 in the winter even with a blocker plate.

I am perfectly happy with the spin on filter.  Like everything else, I
cannot prove it makes a difference but I cannot image it hurts.  It also
gives me a place to look for bad stuff at each oil change.
