----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Hello All:
I flew down to Olympia and checked out the Coupe in a garage. The chap who owns it lives about a mile from the end of runway 35 and picked me up to check it out. It's a C model, old brakes, single fork nose gear. Set up for a flat windshield, but has a new bubble still in the paper. It is complete except for the engine, prop, and nose bowl. The right wing was fairly open and looked really good. The spar attachment points on the butt ends look very clean and shiny. The center section has corrosion on and around the spar carry through attachments. However this doesn't look terminal. I didn't probe it with an icepick though. There is sheet metal corrosion on the right side center section fillet right above the walk way aft of the side window. This last will require replacement or repair of the fillet. Someone started stripping it and the fuselage has been completely stripped. Tail and engine cowl are still painted. There is surface corrosion all over the plane. This does appear to be surface corrosion that will clean up fairly easily. The ailerons will require opening up and cleaning everything up. They don't seem as bad as the ones I am doing right now however. The plane last flew in 1968 and has about 1700 hours on it. It has a full gyro panel with war surplus instruments. The radios could be sold to a museum--they're that old. The asking price is $1100.00 I was tempted to get it. HOWEVER I just retired---fixed income--A & P school--books tuition--Annual due in November--a pair of wings to recover--you get it-- If interested, here's the info on the owners.
