There are several configurations of "braces."  See the service notes.
Mine cracked with the "soft strap fix."  I work in a shop that sees a
lot of small Continentals on various aircraft. There are many different
varieties of braces used, none of them perfect.

I went back to the "cross brace" using a piece of aluminum .75" angle
tied to two clamps. It's been OK for about 50 hours so far.
