Hi Harry,
Good description of how to handle the tail height problem.
If anyone would like a copy of  the first FAA appoved 337, I would be happy
to send one for an SASE. Or you can buy the spacer from Univar , and they
will send you the spacer along with my 337. No one should have a problem
getting the ia to sign off.  I  was going to apply for an STC for the spacer
a long time ago and just recently and was told that that it would be a waste
of time because they could see no way that it would not be approved by your
IA. In other words leave well enough alone.
The FAA concurred that really, the only thing it did was to put the airplane
back to the original specifications, right where Fred had designed it in the
first place.
When I first applied for the 337, I was, and still am, an FAA safety
counselor and the inspector was my best friend. But that had nothing to do
with getting it approved so quickly.
Honest.
