You are not increasing the gross weight. You are converting a -C to a -D. The -D just happens to have a 1400lb gross. The SS skin is something the FAA (CAA) overlooked on the original certification (probably because the 'Coupe originally had a homemade in-line four engine with a different cowl- the C-65 was added when it became available because it was way cheaper than making the inline engine.)
