          I went through this with my Port side fuel tank. Lucky me... I
could go in through the top to back up the rivets. I think this happens
because of water that sits in the low point of the tank and the airplane
sits... and sits... and sits. I flew the heck outta mine when I got it and it
started to leak after about 150 hours. I found 3 rivets (of about 16) around
the fitting (just like what you described) that were corroded badly. Replaced
6 of em just to be sure.

        Glad you found it and were able to fix it without having to take the
tank out!
