Well I don't have Rag wings and I know if I had some it would cost me a
fortune to recover them.
As for priming the metal surfaces : I doubt it is a perfect solution. I
saw paint cracking or not being distributed into every little gap. And
that's where stuff like corrosion -X comes in. It reaches out for these
little spots, it crawls in where primer can't or won't go. It goes into
the hard to reach corners where the corrosion usually starts. 
That's why I am spraying the inside of wings and spar area every annual
religiously...
