There are two excellent articles in the October issue of "Private Pilot". I suggest that anyone who wishes to make changes to their airplane that was not incorporated in the ORIGINAL type certificate read them. An STC is NOT a "cake walk" to have it approved. The people that take it upon themselves to go through this maze of bureaucratic paperwork have done so for our benefit and we should not look for ways to circumnavigate paying them for their efforts. To do this, in my mind, is theft. The STC for removing the generator and installing the Alternator is owned by Barnstormers, RFD-2, Box 283 Chestertown, MD 21658. I saw a post on this site requesting photocopies of the paperwork. When I purchased mine ($80.00) it was extremely detailed (11-pages) and NUMBERED and registered to my airplane. It covers the wireing diagram, size of wires, circuit breaker size and full equipment list for the proper installation. I am acutely aware that there are "Coupers" who will do their own thing to their airplanes. The downside to that is when you sell it and the paperwork is not accurate and the next owner is grounded. I know I cannot stop this type of mentality, nor do I intend to start a war. However, I do wish that everyone would think twice before "doing their own thing to their airplane." PLEASE read the articles in "Private Pilot".
