This is true in principle, but the practical matter is that the oil
bypass 
circuit is not up to the task of controlling the pressure of frigid 100
wt.  
Another thing to consider is that the Continental bypass is at the end
of the 
oil circuit, as is the gauge, so if you're seeing 100 psi there, it's a
lot 
higher at the pump end.  IIRC, max allowable by Continental is 40 psi.
