Surface corrosion can be "cleaned, acid etched, alodined, and epoxy
painted."  What's often found in
the main spars is intergrannular corrosion, which starts inside the spar
like cancer and works it's way
outward.  When you can see the exfoliation it is usually too late to do
anything except replace the
spar.
