When I bought my Coupe, it seemed to run just great. The first time I flew it, I was coming in a little high, so I closed the throttle. Luckily I was all the way down and on the ground before I needed a little more fuel. Guess what? Dead as a mackerel. I wasn't too happy about that, as I realized if I'd needed more power at the last minute, I wouldn't have had it. Had the carb removed and overhauled. The damned thing was full of white slush that had been coming off the inside of the right wing tank. Had the idle jet almost completely plugged. After the overhaul, she purred like a kitten at all rpm. Getting the old sludge out of the wing tank, and replacing it with new was a different story. Buying a new airplane would have been easier.
