Today I ordered the gasket for the wing tank. Univair had them in stock.
They have six holes, my
gasket has 12 holes. I'll punch out the other six when I receive it. The
glass is called a lens and is
part number 48138 and sells for the unrealistic sum of $36. For that
price, you can buy a 4' x 8'
sheet of 0.040-0.050 acrylic and practice making the lens till you get
one right. I also bought the
swing arm for the cork with the scale attached.
I manufactured the window plate with the pointers and the saddle that
supports the float arm below the
window plate. Made them from 4140 steel, took about two hours.
Everything inside the tank was rusted
very badly and not worth saving. The only part that was salvageable was
the ring that holds down the
lens and the backing plate that has the 12 nuts attached. I removed the
backing plate from inside of
the tank cleaned it and coated it with epoxy paint.
Talk to Bill at Univair, he seems to know the tanks and their parts very
well.
