My coupe has been running with an exhaust temp above the 1200F redline
(1300F-1400F). The plane flies great, cylinder head temp is well below
540F. I was told yesterday that I must be flying with a lean mixture.
However, I am getting 5 gallons per hour on an 85-12F engine, a
Stromberg carb, and Bendix mags. Another problem is I am not able to
lean the mixture until I get above 7000 feet. So maybe it is too lean,
though I am indicating full rich. Could the carburetor be malfuntioning
and not supplying sufficient fuel to the engine? If so, what would be
the fix? What are some problems that could occur from running the
engine with a high exhaust temp?

Thanks

Jim
