I just purchased a 1946 Ercoupe that was born as a C but upgraded to a D
model. Somehow, without an engine change the horsepower went from 75 to
85 and the gross weight limit went up to 1400 lbs. How did that happen?
The work description in the log book says basically that the skin on the
engine compartment was changed to stainless steel and the up travel on the
elevator was restricted to 9 degrees.
Also, is the split tail mod worth doing on my aircraft? It appears that
it might lower the stall speed by about 5 or 6 mph and increase the
landing performance by better assuring that the main gear touches down
first. The elevator up travel would be increased to about 20 degrees.
One more question....(I get so excited when I talk about my new
'coupe).....
Is it a good idea to install the large (9 cubic foot) baggage compartment
since I plan on flying a lot of extended cross-country trips?
Mahalo nui...
(Thank you very much)
