Hi Brett; I agree that priming your engine through the air intake is

not good. I take it that your Coupe does not have a primer installed.
The correct Marvel carburetor for your C-85 engine is the
Continental
PN 627637 or Marvel PN A-104240. The correct PN for the accelerator pump
is
A194-593. I do not know if it is possible to change the pump without
removing
the carburetor from the engine. I suspect not. However, you could check
the
pump inlet screen, which is on the bottom of the carburetor, under the
accelerator pump housing.
It looks to me like you must take the top of the carburetor off in
order to replace the accelerator pump, so you will most likely need a new
throttle body to bowl gasket in addition to the accelerator pump.
I would check the screen on the pump inlet first. If it is clogged,

then you have a simple solution. I have seen this screen completely
disintegrated. There is a small check valve in the bottom of the pump
housing
which could become stuck if there is a lot of "gunk" or dirt in the bottom
of
the carburetor and the screen is not functioning.
Nothing says the carburetor must be overhauled if taken apart.
However, the Marvel carburetor manual recommends always replacing: all
gaskets, seals and packing, bushings, retainers, float valve and seat
assembly, accelerator pump, and float shaft. So I would assume that these
are
the parts that are in the repair kits. The repair kit price with Univair
is
almost $400, and the accelerator pump is less than 1/2 that.
I would certainly call Lee at Skyport and ask him where the best
place
to obtain these parts is.
Good Luck
