I also heard about it from the Air Force Retiree News. Seems as though he was an Air Force retiree that forgot his training. I'm probably preaching to the choir, but...... It makes no difference if the cans/containers are metal or plastic. Unless they are grounded, static electricity can build up. Same goes for pouring the gas into the plane. The plane should be grounded and the container should be grounded, or at least touch the ground before pouring....and.....the container should be in contact with the grounded plane while pouring. Back when I owned and flew airplanes...not ultralights.... I made a short grounding cable with alligator clips that I attached to the container and to the airplane ground point before pouring.
