G'day Pete (& all)!

Coupes to Serial No. 2622 have part number 31150 "Frame, Windshield Front"
(which is steel) and subsequent have part number 31215 "Windshield Frame"
(which is aluminum).

Above part numbers per page 45 of Ercoupe Parts Manual, Service Assemblies
No. 16 and 16A. Above descriptions from p. 10 and p. 11 of Ercoupe Spare
Parts List 1/15/54 (Sanders Aviation, Inc.). Current Univair price list,
page 6, calls 31150 "ercoupe front frame" and 31215 "ercoupe windshield
frame".

If there magnetic interferance proves to be a problem, degaussing may
provide a solution. Don't just check the windshield frame. Sometimes
ferrous fasteners (or even angle iron!) have been used to mount
instruments, etc. on or behind the instrument panel. Coupe motor mounts
can become strongly magnetic...probably the result of lack of care
connecting/disconnecting/etc. starter without disconnecting battery first.

Know of one lady flyer who gave up in disgust when several A&Ps couldn't
get the
verticle card unit to work but compensation was possible with the
whiskey-type unit.
Hope you have better luck.

Regards
