Oh, great group monitor: Is there any way of sending a FAQ message to any new person writing in? I appreciate all the help I got as a "newbie" Alon owner one year ago plus the patience of all the long-term owners who have answered the same questions of "should I buy" or "how do I fix this" over-and-over.
There are however, many questions which get asked over and
over and which are not all answered in the WEB pages I've
visited (certainly not all in one place). I believe that a
really good FAQ sheet would contain at a minimum:
+ Models and versions (i.e. Ercoupe C, CD, Alon A-2, A-2A,
etc.) and the basic variations between them, such as
engines, props, panel arrangements, seating, canopies,
empenage.
+ Who owns the type certificate.
+ Recommended documentation: Skyport, Univair, Ercoupe
Owner's Club, Continental, FAA.
+ EAA auto gas STC and a URL link.
+ Inspection sheet sample.
+ General warning about known problems such as center
section corrosion. (How many people has someone in the group
warned about not buying a junker?)
+ General performance data, especially gross weight and
typical load capacity. What different approved props will
do to performance.
By sending out a FAQ sheet, we would be helping a
prospective owner as well as saving the forum for more
esoteric maintenance issues, bragging, announcements, parts
searches, etc.
