That's what I did with my coupe, as I have the old style glass tube gauge in the plane, and after it broke twice in the cockpit leaking fuel, my AE simply put a plate on it, and we header tank floats onto the wing tanks.
I found that the wing tank gauges were kind of useless though, as you can't see the right wing tank from the left seat, and the floats aren't calibrated for the wing tank size, so they show empty when the tank is really only half empty. I've gone back to just normal wing tank caps, and rely on the header tank gauge, and planning only. Since I have an O-200 with fuel pump, I get a bright light right in my face when the wing tanks run dry, and I always keep an eye on the header tank gauge. It would be nice if Univair could be convinced to create float gauge calibrated to the wing tank size though. -Tom
