Coupers:

When I purchased my Alon last year, it came equipped with
AeroFlash wingtip strobes. The installation looked well
done, but it had never been entered in the logs or weight
and balance. When my IA and I researched the subject, the
strobes were not shown as an option for the aircraft and the
particular ones used were not STC'ed for 'coupes. This
called for a field inspection. I prepared a 337 and the IA
submitted it to the FSDO for an inspection. An inspection
was scheduled, but the inspector merely called my IA, they
discussed it on the phone, and the inspector said he would
sign the 337 without actually seeing the plane.

Moral? Work with an IA who has a good relationship with the
FAA.
