Hi, I'm brand new to this list and was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction. I'm currently a medical student here in Maine (University of New England), on the verge of getting my Private ticket. It's been a long time coming as I began training during my "previous life" as a chiropractor, and from the experience decided that getting into a medical school was a higher priority than flying...(I know... it's hard to believe that ANYTHING take precedence over aviation!!)... but I digress...
I became acquinted with the Ercoupe at Oshkosh in '94 and was amazed at the simplicity and just great engineering of the little plane. It reminded me of the venerable VW Bug. Well... to get to the point, I'd like to buy one sometime within the next 8 months, most likely after it thaws out up here. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but my reasons include: Reasonably priced planes available lower operating costs than many other 2 place planes Really cool looking tail Great safety record Even cooler sliding canopy My girlfriend (soon to be fiance') thinks they're "cute" I'm pretty sure I want one with metal wings and rudder pedals. It will be used for basically fun stuff with some transport to distant medical rotation sites (tax deductable flying!!), and flights down the coast to PA (roughly 300 nm), and of course, the yearly trips to Oshkosh. So... any advice on where to look, what to look for, good books on the subject? Are the fabric winged models superior due to less corrosion? She and I together weigh less than 300lbs wet... so weight isn't a big issue...just so we can carry a little tent and a change of clothes.... Thanks in advance... Bill Lattanze DC (Or should I just start looking for a 150?...Haha)
