I'm sure that by now all of you have read about the insulation issue on
the
SwissAir plane that went down, and on the numerous reports of other
insulation fires on other aircraft that happened before it went down.
Remember when you put that next FAA approved part on your plane not to
feel
just too comfortable. That insulation had received FAA certification too.
I
have seen too many parts which were substandard that are PMA approved.
Just
because you purchase an approved part do not assume it is good. Inspect it
closely and watch it after installation for the first 100 hrs or so. We
all
are aware that non approved parts or non approved mods have the potential
to screw up your insurance but don't, let that get in the way of safety.
Remember the FAA genius who was making a ramp check and red tagged a guys
Q
tip prop as unairworthy because the tips were bent? Well they don't always
know what they are looking at, and the fact that one FSDO will approve the
same 337 that the next will turn down is a good indication of how
arbitrary the FAA is and how poorly coordinated they are. Safety is not
really a concern for the FAA despite all their rhetoric which is evident
by
too many such cases.
