Howdy, Ron.
I flew with Opal Walker outa ROW (field elevation 3,666 feet) and on
warm days. Even with the New Mexican heat, we had no trouble in his
O-200 powered `coupe. But we had our choice of runways - 7k, 10k and
13,500 feet long! Old bomber base, you know.
My C-85 coupe made it off ok - even the short runway. The mountains
were a long ways away. There was plenty of room for me to get over 10
grand by the time I hit the pass. This was solo, in the morning.
  Specifically, I would recommend the O-200. I owned a Cessna 150 and
have over 260 hours behind that mill. According to Opal, it doesn't
go faster, but has better take-off and initial rate of climb. Burns
more gas too.
May you find the `coupe of your dreams.
