Climbing
out at
400 fpm sounds good to me and you still have good visibility. 70 mph
sounds a
little slow for an Ercoupe.

I did see an Ercoupe at the Ogden airport a couple years ago.
You're
right, climbing out at 70mph is too steep because of a lack of forward
visibility (dangerous). I have started using 80mph and it seems to climb
around 300fpm. We have a 5800 ft. runway and I usually reach pattern
altitude by the time I turn the crosswind leg.
I'm waiting for a tool I ordered for installing threaded (pop
style)
rivets to replace stripped out threads. Then I can screw down the floor
board properly and also replace any other stripped threads I come across.
Keeping the rpm's at or below 2400 has kept my fuel consumption at
or
below 5 1/2 gph.
Wish I knew how to install a warning horn that sounds at 2400 rpm
because
when I let it get over 2400 I start blowing oil out the vent and all over
the belly. It also increases the oil use. Any thoughts?Jack
