My C-85 oil temp. would normally run 110 degrees above OAT. A 95 degree day would put it near 210 degrees. 70 degree day it would run at 185 -195. Then about 4 years ago after the winter lay off and on the way to an annual the temperature went above 220 and the oil pressure went down to about 20 lbs.-not so good. During the annual we got new rings and bearings and the crank turned. Since then the temperature will still go above 200 in hot weather but the oil pressure stays just below 50 lbs. In the wintertime it's difficult to get the engine up to operating temperature. Its also hard to get the cabin up to any temperature. Unless you change the nose bowl and maybe add a oil cooler, and with everything else in like new condition, the Ercoupe will run hot in hot weather. I think my mechanic said that the Max. temperature for the C-85 is 240 degrees. Even if you maintain good oil pressure, I wouldn't fly to far from the airfield with 240 degree oil.
