After a dozen years not flying, MS FS98 saved me hundreds of dollars in getting my navigational, cross-country, and flight planning skills back.
I re-learned how to intercept a VOR, how to fly the course, how to look for land-marks, and how to deal with winds. It is a very useful program, not the same as a commercial IFR simulator, better in some ways, less useful in others. Coupes are too cheap to say you're doing it to save money and being serious VFR craft I cannot imagine what a simulator would do for your flying skills. To practice X-Wind landings you set up a fan at an angle then crab your monitor until touchdown your mouse will straighten out on it's own soon after. This seems to be a triumph of technology over reason. You guys are kidding I hope!!!!!!! >
