As usual, Oshkosh was great again this year. The weather was outstanding thru Sunday, but went down Monday and Tuesday. Since it looked so good earlier in the week, my bet was that it would go down toward the end of the show, hence I drove. Glad I did, since I drove home Tuesday thru 8 hours of driving rain, back into Ohio. Had I flown, I would, or at least the airplane would, still be there. I was very disappointed in two things. First, I saw very few coupes; maybe everyone else feared the weather turning sour as I did. I went to the type club tent, and the EOC display was awful. A few volunteers were there. There were no shirts, ball caps, or anything else for sale. The leader of the EOC wasn't there either, and one of the people there said he doesn't like Poberezny, so he won't come to Oshkosh. How childish can you get? If any of the rest of you were there, and saw the fine displays and merchandise for sale by the Luscombe, Short Wing Piper, Taylorcraft, Aeronca, and similar clubs, you were as embarrased as I was. Maybe the uninformed think the coupe is a joke because its type club performs the way it does. Look at the fine magazines and newsletters put out by most of these clubs, then compare the Coupe Capers. Anyone out there interested in forming a new club, to be classy and offer some benefits? Dues to a worthwhile club may have to be a little higher to pay to do it right. Let me know if you're interested.
