Does anyone know if the military ever purchased any Ercoupes? What brings this up is the information re: JATO (RATO) testing taking place at Wright Field using an Ercoupe in, I believe, the early 1940's. Was this a military aircraft, NACA, or a contractor's plane? If they were acquired by the military, what was their designation (examples: U-3, O-2, L-19, X-, Y--, YO--, etc.)? If they were acquired by the military, does anyone have
have any information on their paint scheme? I've always loved Ercoupes, and think the "warbugs" are pretty neat, so I just wondered whether their was any basis for any of their markings. I've always wanted to fly an Ercoupe, but never had the opportunity. I'm due to finish grad school in a few weeks, maybe I'll be able to afford to buy one in a while. That's one way to get a ride!
