You are correct there are several expiremental aircraft (particularly in the
STOL envelope) that employ flaperons that I have been looking into, and the
key as I understand it for the R/C flyer is the redisgn of the wing tip so
that it doesn't stall untill it reaches a higher angle of attack. I also like
the subaru angle. there is a guy in our
EAA that took a subaru trans. cut the case apart and mated the tail shaft to
the bell housing and with some machining and the flex plate, a short shaft, a
couple bearings, and subaru starter, made a direct drive for his RV with a
subaru engine, the right prop combo and he is spinning it in tests at 2750 RPMs
at a cost of 300.00. And as far as aircraft quality, my friends cessna 182
alternator says motorcraft right on the back, costs over 500.00 from cessna
and less than 100.00 from NAPA auto parts same part number.
As far as dreaming I am not ready to give up yet. As a custom car builder all
my life, nothing in my driveway or garage is stock or original (a bit of an
illness I guess)
so I can't imagine it will take to long for a coupe the same as everyone elses
will eat me up and out will come the tools. I will keep you informed.
Still not Scared(but careful) Ron
